Summary
Simamkele Fatuse is a weltwärts volunteer serving as the European Programme Aide at Democracy International e.V. until March 2026. Through the weltwärts South-North programme, funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), he supports EU-funded projects that advance citizen participation and democratic innovation, in particular the Citizens’ Action for Democracy (CitiDem) and TWIN4DEM (Horizon Europe).
Biography
Simamkele Fatuse is a youth development and democracy enthusiast from South Africa with a background in Development Studies and Sociology. Back home, he is the founder of Amplifying Youth Voices (AYV), a youth-focused nonprofit promoting civic participation and social justice. He has been involved in various youth initiatives, including the first cohort of the Youth@SAIIA Youth Implementers for Change programme, where his project, #RedefineZWELI ranked among the top 11 funded initiatives nationwide.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting EU-funded democracy projects and internal coordination within Democracy International.
- Providing administrative and logistical support for project activities, meetings, and events.
- Contributing to communication and dissemination activities.
- Representing Democracy International at events.
