In a nutshell
The Democracy Camp is your five-day-intercultural exchange on democracy and related issues such as media, sustainability inclusion and Europe - and the interconnections between them. Join our community of 65 young people from 16 to 26 years of age from across Europe from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Czechia, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Austria and Ukraine.
Each year, we explore two guiding questions: What participation tools are available to me? And how can I use these tools to promote sustainable and inclusive societies?
Together we identify a wide variety of democratic best practices in sustainability, justice and shaping Europe. We expand our understanding of political levels from the city to the role of the EU and UN. And we advance skills relevant for political participation and running successful projects in the future.
Our activities change every year, you can find out more by taking a look at each year's webpage!
After each Camp and with your help, we publish your ideas for improved youth participation and promising tools to foster sustainability, inclusive societies and Europe in an updated version of the Youth Democracy Handbook. We then share this handbook with decision-makers in Europe like Members of the European Parliament, to bridge the gap between the EU and young people.
Participation in the Democracy Camp is free of charge for all young people. Democracy International will cover all costs, including your travel to and from the Camp location.
There are only two criteria:
We want our Democracy Camp to include as many diverse voices as possible so we especially encourage you to register if you identify as part of a politically or otherwise marginalised group. Please let us know what you need to take part in the Camp so we can best accommodate you!
If registrations are currently open, you can find the application form on each Camp's page.
After five days of Democracy Camp brainstorming and four months of authoring and editing, it is finally ready: The main result of our Camp 2024, the Youth Democracy Handbook!
