Summary
Daniel Schily is a co-founder and Executive Board Member of Democracy International. His engagement for direct democracy and citizen participation spans more than 25 years.
In 1988, together with others, he founded the German democracy organisation Mehr Demokratie e.V., where he played a key role in promoting direct democratic instruments and public participation in Germany and beyond. Over the years, Daniel has contributed to numerous initiatives and projects, including the European Public Sphere, the Academy for a Learning Democracy, and the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy.
A philosopher and mathematician by education, Daniel Schily combines analytical thinking with a deep commitment to democratic innovation and social responsibility. He is also actively involved in civic and environmental initiatives, particularly through the Hofgut Rengoldshausen near Lake Constance, which promotes sustainable agriculture and community-oriented social projects.
He lives with his family in Bonn, Germany.
